midsummer expert?

Posted by Sofia Berg on November 10, 2008

Hi!

My name is Sofia Berg, I'm new here and just stumbled upon this website while researching on the topic of midsummer. I have to give a speech on how to celebrate a Swedish midsummer, and in this speech I have to have interviewed an expert in the field. So, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on somebody who is an expert in the field of Swedish/Scandinavian history, here in Chicago?

It would help me a lot if anyone could give me a tip!

Thank you very much!!

Finnish Speaking Tutor Needed

Posted by Natalee Arteaga on March 19, 2008

Hello everyone!
What a lovely community blog you have here. I just recently signed up. I am seeking someone to help me learn the Finnish language here in the Chicago Land area. I've been looking for Chicago classes to take but I haven't found any. I've emailed some Chicago land tutors but they have yet to respond. I'm looking for someone to meet twice a week (public place, anywhere convenient for you)  for maybe an hour or less to help me. Tutor will of course be compensated. I'm planning a trip to visit Finland this year and would love to be fluent in the language to enhance my experience when I visit.
Any resources and responses would be greatly greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Coming out of hibernation?

Posted by Matthew Joseph Origer on April 13, 2007

Terve!
I am an American that is new to the Chicago area but love all things Scandinavian and am teaching myself Finnish.  I see that there has been little posted to this site recently as far as events but am wondering if the running group will start up again soon.  I am training for the Chicago Marathon and would love to go running with anyone on the lakefront maybe on Sunday afternoons when the weather becomes warmer.

Translation needed

Posted by Tarja Anchor on February 3, 2007

Hello Everyone,

I was so happy to find this site and to realize I am not the only Scandinavian here. Feels little lonely sometimes to make pulla by myself, and no one knows what it is all about..you know...kylma maito ja pulla lauantaina saunan jalkeen.
I have to go and find that Swedish store in Chicago. Maybe I can get some real RYE BREAD from there.  The bread here is basically pullaa.

I would need to have a certified translations of some Finnish certificates.  So I am looking for a translator from Finnish to English. All help would be very much appreciated.

Warm Regards to All...

Educational Materials needed.

Posted by ryan hancock on December 17, 2006

I was recently approached to provide a presentation to grade school and preschool children on Scandinavian culture and languange.  Does anyone know of any materials that would be fitting for younger children?  I would prefer to simply purchase materials rather than make my own.  Please let me know if anyone can be of any assistance.  rh_cwby@yahoo.com
